Sizing

Overall, the quality of this helmet seems very good. I'm upgrading from a cheaper model of an HJC helmet. This one is about twice as expensive as that one and it feels it.

I don't like how the straps come from the outside of the shell down to the chin. Consequently, there is a large gap between the strap and your cheeks. The padding on the strap there is useless since it comes nowhere near your cheeks.

Sure it makes you look like Kazoo from the Flintstones but I think all helmets do when you try them on in your kitchen. I think having the eye guard down helps mitigate this problem.

I find the HJC brand fits my head shape well. Other helmets I have tried seemed tight around my forehead. I guess, therefore, I have more of an oval shaped head but that HJC somehow accommodates that. My old HJC helmet was an XL and since I loved the fit of that, I ordered an XL for this one. When I first tried this new one on, it felt a little snug but admittedly this is my first half helmet and am not familiar with the way they fit in general. At first, I almost wished I ordered the XXL. I checked the side of the box and there is a size chart and according to it I should be an L or even a M! The chart says to measure your head 1" above your eyebrows. With that measurement - 20 7/8 - 21 1/4 - XS; 21 5/8 - 22 - S; 22 1/2 - 22 7/8 - M; 23 1/4- 23 5/8 L; 24 -24 3/8 - XL; 24 3/4 - 25 1/4 - XXL. I measured out at 23" at the most which is between a M and a L. Since this is mail order, I don't have a L to try but the XL feels plenty snug enough. I can't imagine putting on a M! The manual has a test you do with the helmet to see if it fits properly and I pass that test soundly.

Buying something where fit is so important is dicey across the internet. It's like buying ski boots on the internet (which I have done)! Luckily, I was familiar with the fit of the brand from my last helmet. So, ultimately, I like the fit and I'm keeping the helmet.

Helment selected for summer riding

Got this helment for my husband who likes to ride in the summer. His full-face helment tends to be too hot for riding in the summer and this offered an alternative that would not trap heat inside the helment. He is looking forward to trying it out.

Nice Helmet

I put this helmet on and it seemed top heavy, looked in the mirror and it was major 'mushroom head'. If I was not so vain I would of kept it, but for a kinda short fat guy this was not a good look. Helmet was great looking and the visor was cool, just not for me. Item was shipped very quickly.
